From the very first conception in 2013 by Elon Musk, the Hyperloop has become the next revolution in transportation. The idea under the Hyperloop is simple: imagine a London’s tube carriage, but whose wheels instead of being touching the ground are floating in the air.
As there will be no friction with the rail, it would be able to achieve much higher speeds –allowing it to travel as fast as 1200km/h. This would be able to connect Los Angeles with San Francisco, a journey of more than 550km, in just 30 minutes.
This idea inspired a group of students from the UPV (Universitat Politècnica de València) in 2015, deciding to take part on the ‘Hyperloop Pod Competition’, a world-wide engineering competition that aims to develop the next generation of Hyperloop technologies. With a team of only 5 people and competing against some of the most prestigious universities in the world, they were awarded the “Top Design Concept” and “Best Propulsion/Compression Subsystem Technical Excellence Award”. After this success, the team expanded to almost 30 people, and now they are preparing for 2018 competition. 2 members of the team will come to the Symposium to share their experiences and discuss the promising future of Hyperloop.
Javier Arroyo – Team Captain en Hyperloop UPV
Team Captain at Hyperloop UPV. Javier began his journey at Hyperloop UPV in 2016, leading the Energy team. His first Hyperloop competition was in Summer 2017, on the ‘Hyperloop Pod Competition II’ where the UPV team finished in the world “Top 10”, competing with some of the top universities in the world. He is now leading the Hyperloop project for the next ‘Hyperloop Pod Competition’ which will take place this summer. He is passionate about Research, Chemical Engineering and Leadership.
Manuel Martínez, Software Manager at Hyperloop UPV. Manuel started in Hyperloop UPV in 2016 as one of the technical directors and member of the avionics group. His first Hyperloop competition was in Summer 2017, on the ‘Hyperloop Pod Competition II’. Nowadays, he is in charge of Navigation & Software for this year’s Hyperloop competition. He is passionate about Web Based Software Programming.
